Brief scheduled maintenance for elzar and farnsworth servers (completed)
At 11:00 PM Pacific time tonight (November 24), the “elzar” and “farnsworth” servers will be restarted. As a result, Web sites and e-mail service for customers using those servers will be unavailable for approximately five minutes.
Other servers will not be affected. And no e-mail will be lost, of course; incoming mail will just be delayed for a few minutes.
This brief maintenance is related to our investigation of a Linux kernel problem on another server earlier today. We believe we have tracked that problem down, and we found that it also potentially affects these two servers. A simple restart of these servers to load updated kernel modules will make sure that the same problem does not occur.
Update: The maintenance was completed with less than three minutes “downtime” on each server.
