Ruby 1.8 and Python 2.5 / 2.6 no longer supported

As of today, we’re officially no longer supporting the very old Ruby 1.8, Python 2.5 and Python 2.6 programs on our servers. They’ll soon be removed from our servers entirely. (Ruby and Python are scripting languages; if you don’t know what they are, your site is unlikely to affected by this and you can ignore it.)

Newer versions of the programs (Ruby 1.9 and Python 2.7) have been available on our servers for several years, and our logs don’t show any customers still using the old versions. The removal of Ruby 1.8 would also cause any old “Ruby on Rails” version 1 or 2 apps to stop working, but there don’t appear to be any of those, either.

So this change shouldn’t affect anyone: We’re just documenting it here in the unlikely event someone has trouble as a result.
